Learning the Fretboard

Today we are going to take a slightly different approach to learning the notes on the fretboard. We'll focus on finding specific notes across the entire fretboard. Today we'll begin by concentrating on the note C. This exercise can be done anywhere, with or without your guitar. As I've emphasized in different places, just visualizing the note positions will help you burn them into your memory.

For example, do you know that C on the D string is two frets up (or down, depending on how you think about it) from the octave position (fret 12). Yes, that's right. C is at D10. Think about that. Visualize it. And now you are much closer to remembering it.
