A Minor Pentatonic Shapes 1 and 2

- The first shape is the one you are likely to learn first. There is some inconsistency about which number to call this shape. I prefer calling it Shape 1 because it is the easiest one to remember.
- Shape 2 begins on the 2nd note of Shape 1.
- Because of this ability to harmonically "fit" with most melodies and chord sequences, you don't really have to know what notes you are playing when improvising over a tune. This makes it ideal for improvising over melodies and chord sequences.
